To me, Nova is one of the best comics out there, and definitely the best Sci-Fi themed comic from the "mainstream" publishers.
So I started this one off in pencil, using my usual progression of weights (non-photo blue, 6H, 2B and 6B). Most of the time I will not ink my work. It usually detracts from the nuances of the pencil work that I do, so I just scan in my pencils and go from there.
Almost everything was done in Photoshop. The barely-visible grid and symbols in the background were done in Illustrator, since it's easier for me to set up that sort of thing in that program.
I export that stuff out of Illustrator and back into Photoshop to apply effects and transparency settings. Photoshop is still way better than Illustrator at dealing with transparency. Illustrator has a long way to go to be reasonably comparable.
The "Nova" lettering was done in Photoshop with the vertical type tool, and that was that. Enjoy!
